The Color Of Dreams

Light Colors:

Express the need to dissipate or expend energy through outgoing physical activity or mental creativity.

Dark Colors:

Express the psychic or physical need for emotional peace, physical comfort or regeneration, and/or release from tension or stress.

    White: affirmation; acceptance; protection and healing; what one is saying "yes" to; regaining or restoring psychic balance and health; life; absorption and light; indicating a socially active orientation; the reformation of old things into new patterns (transformation). (Note: the Chinese color of mourning as contrasted to the Western black)
    Black: Negation; renunciation; the end of something; what one is saying "no" to; darkness & death; withdrawn & anti-social in orientation; to void, block out or annihilate. It should be noted here that the other side of being withdrawn is a pulling back into an introspective orientation . The American Indian tradition sees the color black as full of the creative potential of the Great Mystery.  Black is a combination of all color - it is ‘full’ of potential as yet undifferentiated.
    Gray: Indifference. Uninvolved; Freedom from external sensory stimulus (neither tense nor relaxed); A limbo state; in-between.
   Brown:  An increased need for physical ease, sensuous contentment or release from discomfort and conflict; a need for grounding.  Mother Earth/earth tones/ a darkness which is warm and non-threatening.
   Reddish Brown:  The search for or struggle toward establishing rootedness and the possibility of rejuvenation.
   Salmon Pink:  Universal love; flowing toward cosmic awareness.
   Red:  passionate intensity (i.e., love or hate); power, strength and vitality; stimulation and excitement; creativity; initiation; regenerative vitality; the impulse toward active doing, competitiveness, productivity. Outflowing energy.
   Orange:  exhilaration and expansiveness; warmth; cheerful and friendly expression of purpose and will.
   Yellow:  Optimism; hopeful volatility; a loosening or relaxation; psychological release from burdens or restrictions; pressing toward the new and unformed -- in search of light or source; intuitive apprehension of origins/trends; negatively it is non-substantial happiness or cheerfulness.
      Green: Sensation; the earthy and tangible; renewal, growth; balance; clarity of presentation; precision and accuracy; the will, control/tension; firmness and constancy; self-assertiveness. Light-green: receptivity. Dark Green: holding tight to one’s position; self-insistence: negatively it is stagnation.
      Blue:  Contentment; emotional tranquillity; peace and harmony; physiologically oriented to rest, relaxation & recuperation; reason and thought. Dark Blue: calmness Light Blue: rationality.
   Violet:  Intuitive, sensitive, and understanding; intimacy and eroticism; balance of reason and passion; the desire for a deep level of union; capacity to trust one’s own sense of situations/others; breaking down of barriers and bound up energy.
